Who should I call if I have any questions after the procedure?

You may contact the physician’s office or the endoscopy center for any questions.

Will I be able to eat after my procedure?

For the first 24 hours do not drink any alcoholic beverages. You will be able to eat after you are
fully awake. You may experience mild discomfort due to excessive gas but this should resolve
within the first few hours after your procedure.

Will I be able to drive home?

Please arrange for an adult to drive you home after your procedure. As a matter of safety, you
will not be allowed to drive yourself home.

What should I bring with me on the day of my procedure?

Please bring your insurance card, a photo ID and a list of your medications. Wear loose fitting
clothing and leave all valuables at home.

Should I take my medication on the day of my procedure?

You may take your medication with a small sip of water on the day of your procedure. If you are
taking coumadin or insulin you should contact your primary care provider for specific instructions
at least one week prior to your procedure.

When should I stop eating or drinking before the procedure?

Your physician will give you specific instructions about when to stop eating and drinking before
your procedure.

What are clear liquids?

Clear liquids are any fluids you can see through but it is best to AVOID anything with Red Dye.  Coffee (without creamer), Kool-Aid, Jell-O, fat free broth or bouillon, Crystal Light, clear soda, fruit juice without pulp and popsicles without pulp are examples of clear liquids.

What should I do if I am unable to complete the colonoscopy prep?

Please let your doctor know as soon as you can.  Your doctor may have specific instructions that will help you successfully complete your prep.

How will I know the results of my procedure?

Your doctor will explain the results of the procedure to you and your family members as soon as you wake up. You will be notified of any biopsy results as soon as your doctor has reviewed the results. If you have additional questions later, please contact your doctor at his office.
